Doncaster Bonsai Experience
Markham Grange Nursery, Longlands Lane, Brodsworth, Doncaster, South Yorkshire. DN5 7XB.
This event is held twice yearly, in Spring and Autumn.
Organised by Daryl Harris, Karen and John Skill and Dave Newman, the February event attracted more traders than on previous occasions. Many professionals, traders and hobbyists attended, with several people travelling through the night from The Trophy in Belgium to be part of this ever-growing event.
Twenty five exhibits made up the exhibition, showcasing some of the best British Bonsai, enhanced by a beautiful display of Kusamono and accompaniment planting.
World renowned Bonsai artist Harry Harrington (Bonsai4Me) acted as exhibition judge, ably assisted by his apprentice, Sean Stolp. The following awards were made....
Best Tree - Duncan Hield-Yew
Best Shohin/Mame display - Rod McFarlane
Best Evergreen-Duncan Hield -Juniper
Best Deciduous - Rod McFarlane - Acer
Best Deadwood - Duncan Hield - Yew
Best Accent - Caz Ashmore - Bromeliad
Best Kusomono - Pete and Ted Goodhead
Best Club Display - North East Lincs Bonsai Society
Top honours of Best Tree in Show went to Duncan Hield for his outstanding Taxus. Duncan also took the prize for Best Evergreen Tree with a stunning Juniper.
The event welcomed over 60 sellers filling 100 tables providing finished and starter trees and yamadori to exquisite pots from a variety of esteemed potters.
There are 99 tables already booked for the event on September 24th 2023.
Many thanks to everyone who supported our event, especially the organisers.
A charitable donation of £550 has already been sent to the British Red Cross to support their urgent work in Syria and Turkey following the recent earthquakes and £275 was donated to Bluebell Wood Children's Charity.
