08-10Jan20 46th Gafuten Exhibition - Kyoto, Japan.
The Gafuten Shohin Bonsai show takes place in Kyoto Japan annually in January. I believe it is recognised as the worlds premier Shohin Bonsai show. This year’s show the 46th show took place between the 8-10 of January. It is held at the Miyako Messe International Exibition Hall Kyoto.
I have been lucky enough to visit Japan on a number of occasions and I visited the show in January 2020 before the pandemic hit the world.
I was amazed to see the quality of Shohin Bonsai displays on show at the time and took a huge numbers of photos.
The show consists of individual Shohin Bonsai displays as well as Suiseki and Bonsai Pot displays.

For the last 7 years a Shohin photo display has also been part of the show. It was open to international exhibitors who submitted a photo of a Shohin Display within the rules of the competition.
This year I was invited to submit a display and decided to take the plunge and have a go. Although with only a few days to prepare and with the pandemic preventing us collecting the equipment and all the accompanying bits we need for displays, I had a go.
So I sent in my photo and was pleased to see it displayed among many others at the show for visitor’s to see.
Hope these photos encourage some of you to travel to the Gafuten Exhibition in the future.
