During a recent visit to a bonsai specialist in the suburbs of Jakarta, Indonesia, I was able to see various
interesting tropical trees, practically all of which we could only unfortunately keep as indoor bonsai in the UK.
These included banyan (a variety of fig), santigi, cemara udang, frangipani, serissa, tamarind and podocarpus.
These professional Indonesian bonsai traders have strong links to the thriving Taiwanese bonsai market.
As is shown in one photo, this nursery employs robust methods to deter would-be thieves.
