Heathrow Bonsai Show
Bracknell Leisure Centre, Bagshot Road, Bracknell, Berkshire, RG12 9SE.
This year the show had moved to it's new location in the town of Bracknell, located approximately 25 minutes drive west of the old location, nearly everybody agreed the new location was easy to find and well connected to the motorway system.
The new location housed the complete show in one big hall, with a large hospitality Suite on the second floor over looking the main hall, a great place to chill out and get a birds eye view of the goings on below. Access to the hall for traders and exhibitors was a wide roller door giving perfect accessibility plus also a dedicated car park away from the public parking area, all in all making this location very bonsai show friendly.
The sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II some 48 hours before this show was to take place was a big point of discussion, even though many other events over that weekend had been cancelled, the majority of people agreed the show should go on. We showed our respect to the Queen with a minutes silence at mid-day followed by three cheers.
Even though we all experienced challenging weather conditions this summer playing havoc with our trees, all the participating clubs put on some amazing displays.
This year the usual format of visitors and exhibitors voting for their top three favourite trees was replaced by a new format of visitors and exhibitors voting for their top three club displays.
Favourite top three club displays chosen by Exhibitors:
1st Place, Shiten Bonsai Society
2nd Place, Swindon Bonsai Society
3rd Place, Exeter Bonsai Society
Favourite top three club displays as chosen by the Visitors:
1st Place, The Bonsai Boys
2nd Place, Joint between Exeter Bonsai Society and Swindon Bonsai Society
3rd Place, Eastleigh Bonsai Society
A very special thank you to all the enthusiasts who helped construct, break down and run the show over the weekend, only through the dedication of these volunteers do shows like this carry on.
Thanking you
Mark, Mingchen, Brian and The Team
