Ayrshire Bonsai Club Winter Image Event
Alloway Village Hall, 36a Alloway, Ayr, South Ayrshire, KA7 4PY.
Traditionally the Ayrshire Club kick off the year with our Winter Image Show in January and this year was no exception. This is a pretty informal event where we invite both members and non-members to bring along a tree to display in its winter garb and this year we had some really nice specimens to view and discuss. Although the event has always been open to members of the public who are passing by to come in and have a look at the trees, this year we advertised a bit more widely and were rewarded with record crowds – the best ever. Certainly I stopped counting when I got to 100.
As usual we were visited by our friends from Carlisle and also members of other groups across Scotland – we certainly appreciate the support and thank those who travelled a distance to see us.
We have also tagged on a pot sale to this event and , although the venue is not huge we managed to squeeze in 4 sellers. Potters (and Ayrshire Club members) Barry Somerville and Peter Kleboe (of Catrine ceramics) were there along with Robert Porch and Carl Smith (of Bonnie Bonsai) who had other trees and bonsai supplies for sale.
Special mention also goes to Mary who laid on a great spread (and did all the washing up) – thanks Mary.
As usual I took some photos and, as usual, I apologise for the quality and for the fact that I missed out on some (mainly the sellers) – it wasn’t always easy to dodge the crowds! Hopefully they give a flavour of the event and the sellers will forgive me.
