Yorkshire Bonsai Society Display & Show
At Harrogate Flower Show, 6 The Stables, Newby Hall, Ripon, North Yorkshire. HG4 5AE.
The Yorkshire Bonsai Society put on an educational display and competitive classes at the Harrogate Autumn Show. The display plants were provided by 2 or 3 members, together with artwork from another. The Judges deemed the display worthy of a Premier Gold Medal, continuing our run from last year. The 24 competitive classes were well supported with just over a hundred exhibits on display to be judged. For the first time a non-competitive display of suiseki was included.
There was plenty of interest from members of the public who were encouraged to vote for their favourite tree which encourages them to look at the trees rather than just walk through the exhibits, with some possible recruitment for local clubs.
Here is a list of the Trophy winners
Best in Show – Pinus beuuvronensis – Kev R
Reserve Best in Show – Pinus cembra – Kev R
Best Tree/Pot Combination – Juniper densiflora – Stephen D
Best Juniper – Juniper itoigawa – Peter B
Best Maple – Acer palmatum – Graham W
Best Fuchsia Bonsai – White Knight Pearl – Suki K
Best Autumn Colour – Euonymus alatus – Graham W
Best Native Tree – Crataegus monogyna – Adam B
Exhibitor’s Choice - Juniper densiflora – Stephen D
Public Choice – Ezo Spruce - Nick
A very enjoyable Show which we hoped was appreciated by all those who exhibited and some of the 30,000 visitors who came to the Show over the 3 days
