Surrey Heath Bonsai Show
Chobham Village Hall, Station Road, Chobham, Surrey. GU24 8AQ.
Well it was a very hot day and was the first in many ways.
First time we had run a show at our new location of Chobham Village Hall.
First time we had invited a trader (Collette from Collette’s Bonsai)
First time we had decided not to charge for entry.
The show was a huge success with 24 club members attending and bringing along a total of 66 trees, some of them we had not seen before.
A section of 4 tables was set aside for those who are new to bonsai so that they could show to the public what can be achieved with a small amount of knowledge and time.
This area proved very popular with many of the public’s votes going to the trees brought down by the new members.
Collette had a successful day with her sales along with our own sales table set up outside, initially in the shade but becoming increasingly hotter as the day went on.
Some members even set up a small workshop area outside to show to the public how they worked on their trees or how to create bonsai from raw material.
Almost 120 visitors attended the show with many showing a strong interest in joining the club so hopefully some new members will emerge from the day.
I have always maintained that new members are the lifeline and future of the club with an emphasis of nurturing and welcoming new members to increase their knowledge and passion for bonsai.
My thanks goes out to all those who were involved in running the show and making it the success that it was.
