Middlesex Bonsai Society Winter Show
South Harrow Methodist Church, Walton Avenue, South Harrow, Middlesex. HA2 8QU.
Following the success of our summer show last year at its new location in South Harrow, we decided for the first time in the clubs history to try and stage a winter show as well. The weather dueing the week leading up to the show was very cold and windy, the UK was just about to be lashed by the named Storm 'Isha', but luckily for the club, on the day of the show we were met with blue skies and a warmer temperature. We have previously never had a problem bringing enough members trees together to stage a summer show, but a winter show we approached with some apprehension, as having enough deciduous trees that look good out of leaf is in some ways a bigger ask of a small club. Well, we need not have worried, members stepped up to the job in hand and populated the hall with many leafless trees of all sizes showing off their fine skeleton like branch structures. We sign posted the show in the usual manner and were pleasantly surprised by the public attendance. The usual competition was held with the visiting public voting for their favourite top three trees, an exercise that always positively engages the visitors. The recent shows organised by the club have all been shorter in length, 1000.hrs to 1300.hrs only 3 hours long, but their worth has still been incalculable, every show generating enquiries and new members to the club, long may this continue. The show talk as well was only 30mins in duration, but this was well populated and a successful addition to the show. All in all for our first winter show a good show and a fantastic team effort putting it together.
Best wishes
