Trophy Show
Limburghal cv, jaarbeurslaan 6, B-3600 Genk, Belgium
The Trophy Show at the exhibition halls in Genk, Belgium, returned on 25 – 26 February 2023 after two successive years of cancellations. We went for our first ever visit and wow, what a show it was!
‘BIG’ is probably a word that characterizes it well! Big halls, big line of people to get in at opening time (30 mins), big numbers of traders and big numbers of trees, both on show and for sale. And big trees; in fact, some trees were enormous and reminded me of pictures of trees I’d seen in the national bonsai display in an outdoor park in China. The standard and variety of trees displayed was excellent, as you’d expect of Europe’s premier show. While Brexit has made it difficult for us to take trees to and from Europe, a few ‘Brits’ had managed the paperwork, but we were better represented in the display of pots organized by the European Bonsai Potters Collective. Among the 3 halls of traders, there were no ‘Brits’, but every other European country did seemed to be represented.
We’d thoroughly recommend a visit and will go again. It’s very easy to get to and we stopped the night in the Premier Inn on the edge of Folkstone, took and early Friday morning Eurotunnel train and drove to Genk in 4 hours, including a good break. A fantastic show and well done to the Belgium Bonsai Association for the impeccable organization.
