28th Hwa Fong Bonsai Show
Ping Dong, Taiwan.
This show held every November is Taiwan's national show, it brings together the very best trees from all over Taiwan. Over the years this show has been held at different locations on the island and this years event was at a new location in the south of Taiwan called of Ping Dong, easily accessible by bullet train from Taipei in under 2 hours. The show attracts visitors from all over the Far East, with big groups from Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam and many others from further afield. In previous years at other locations the show has generally been housed in one big hall at this new location it was spread out over two floors. The opening ceremony was held outside under a covered area, luckily for the organisers the weather was nothing but perfect, clear blue skies and a comfortable temperature of 26c. The opening ceremony was made of several performances by local dancing groups followed by all the speeches from local dignitaries and important guests, then the official opening of the show by press the button and the cutting of the red balloons. The opening ceremony dinner was held at a different location on the first night with well over a thousand people attending and being treated to a lavish night of eating, drinking and entertainment. Awards for the trees were given out during the meal with special awards from the President of the WBFF Mr Kim from Korea. There were six demonstrations took place by the top Taiwanese bonsai artists in two Sundays and Saturday. There were only a small amount of traders present at the show, but this is often the case with most Taiwanese shows as usually your only a short distance drive from numerous local nurseries. The show trees looked magnificent displayed to an unquestionable high standard, this show just gets better and better.
